Translucent body color.

Behavior

Actively burrows in sediment.

External Appearance

Anterior is creamy white; posterior is darker tan color. Pointed head used for burrowing.  Tail flattened.

Digestive System

Mouth ventral behind the brain.

Sensory Organs

No sensory structures on head.

Reproduction and Development

Gonochoric with external outcross fertilization.  Single reproductive cycle per year with a duration of 2 months.

Egg development is 2 days; larval stage extends for several weeks.

Up to 4 cm in length

Ecology

Habitat

Adult burrows into top 10 cm of fine sandy and muddy sediment.

Distribution

Indian River Lagoon (Fort Pierce, Florida, USA)

Known Prey Organisms

Carnivorous and also feeds on detritus in sediment.
